[3] Option files
Option files are created by On-Bands NCC (Network Control Centre) and are issued to active customers along with the OBAC (On-Band Access Code). The option file is resident in both the Hub and the remote terminal and must be an exact match to gain access to the by-the-byte service.
Option files contain information relating to the uplink and downlink frequencies and the other parameters required to access the On-Band hubs. Each option file is matched to the unique serial number of a NetModem and along with the RF parameters and geographic location details it also contains important information relating to the IP configuration.
The contents of the option file is checked with the active file resident in the NetModem, if the serial number, the OBAC or any of the RF or IP parameters do not match, then the hub will reject the remote terminal from the by-the-byte service and the remote terminal will not be able to transmit or receive data. If the remote terminal is not designated as "mobile" and the geographic co-ordinates do not match those stored in the hubs copy of the options file then the remote will not gain access to the hub.
It is imperative that all users check with either the On-Band NCC or their suppliers NOC to ensure that the options file is current prior to transmission. Option file entries can be made in three ways.
[1] sent (or pushed) to the remote over the satellite link
[2] copied from an eMail and loaded into the NetModem with a (LAN) connected pc running "iSite"
[3] manually entered using a pc in "terminal" mode
To access each of On-Band regions a separate option file is required. On-band will issue OBAC's and option files for all regions at the initial start of service, free of charge. Additional option files which may from time to time be required for operational reasons will be issued free of charge. Any option file changes that are requested by the remote terminal operators may be chargable. For more details contact your service provider. On-band Access Codes are only issued to authorised users of active remote terminals who are authorised to access the On-Band by-the-byte service.
The OBAC and a password are required to access the "customer login" web portal.
